An adventurous young woman’s thoughts and musings about life on the road.

Life’s too short...

Life’s too short...

Life’s too short...

Three years ago, my husband Grant and I traveled around New Zealand in a campervan. It was a trip of a life time that planted the seed to purchase our own campervan. At that time, we planned on pursing this dream when we retire. But through different life events, we decided now is the right time.

One year ago, we purchased and began the conversion of our 2013 Mercedes Sprinter van. We aren’t the first and won’t be the last who pursue this lifestyle. It may be hard to understand the reasoning of why an individual would want to sell their possessions, move into a small cramped van (without a bathroom), and take the financial risk. I cannot answer for all the other vanlife folks out there but THIS is our reason.

Life’s too short.

On February 24, 2011 our lives changed dramatically. We were juniors in college when we got the news that Grants brother, Noel, had passed away in his sleep. Grant not only lost his brother, he lost his best friend. Every day for the past 7.5 years, we miss Noel and his spontaneous personality and his dry wit.

Just recently on March 17, 2018, my dad, Miles, passed away at the age of 61 after many years of health issues. We spent eight treasured but mournful weeks with my dad in hospice until his last breath. Knowing my dad is no longer suffering provides comfort but doesn’t lessen the deep sadness. Life isn’t the same without my biggest fan.

Noel and my dad taught us how to truly live. Noel always said, “Life’s too short”...followed by a spontaneous idea trying to convince us to join in. My dad, through all of his trials, learned to appreciate what truly mattered, the relationships he developed with others.

Unfortunately, Grant and I have learned at a young age that tomorrow isn’t promised. However, through great loss, we understand what’s truly important. For us, the memories and experiences we share are more valuable than any possessions we will ever own. So what better time then now to travel with our sweet pup making memories that will last a lifetime.

We encourage you to experience life now.
