From Sea to Shining Sea: Six Months of Vanlife

From Sea to Shining Sea: Six Months of Vanlife

Since we left in October 2018, we have traveled from sea to shining sea driving through 27 states, Canada, and Mexico. It still seems unreal how much ground we have covered and we have appreciated every moment. Most mornings we wake up and say, “It’s a great day to be alive in...(wherever we are)”.

When we first took off on this journey, our plan was 12 months. However, we have fallen in love with this lifestyle and don’t know if 12 months is long enough. Now don’t get me wrong, living in a van isn’t always glamorous. Some nights we miss out on an epic campground and end up in a Walmart parking lot. Some days showering isn’t an option and we have to persevere through the smells. Some days just consist of long drives with no activities. Even though there are cons to living in a van, they are nothing compared to the pros.

Over the past six months we have greatly enjoyed the benefits of simplifying our lives by moving into a van. The flexibility of our schedule allows each day to be something new. We have enjoyed waking up everyday to a new adventure whether exploring a new location or relaxing and soaking up the views. We are grateful for the new memories we are making together.

When we moved into a van, we decided I would take time off of work to maximize our flexibility. Even though I have LOVED vanlife, I miss being a physical therapist. With everything falling into place, I accepted a two month travel position in Lincoln City, Oregon. Over the next few months, Grant is consumed with workshops and multiple photo assignments, so its the perfect time for me to work. However, once June rolls around, I’ll be running with open arms back to the van as we head to Alaska for summer and fall.

Thank you to everyone who has followed along on our adventure. Don’t fret, there will still be weekly blog post!
